Don Young's Coconut Road donors were far more generous than previously reported

This article starts with some old news.

The US Senate voted overwhelmingly on 4/15/08 for a Justice Department investigation into Don Young's mysterious earmark for Coconut Road in Florida. When news of the shady aspects of this earmark first broke, a Florida investigative journalist identified over $40,000 in campaign contributions to Don Young from those who would benefit from the Coconut Road earmark - i.e., who attended Young's infamous 2/17/05 fundraiser at the Hyatt Coconut Point Resort near Naples, Florida.

According to a report by donyoungshistory.com, a more realistic figure for fundraising associated with the Coconut Road earmark exceeds $120,000, if contributions from individuals and groups identified in the investigative report:

1) Are cumulatively totaled over the 2002 through 2006 election cycles - when Don Young was Chair of the House Transportation Committee,

2) Contributors to Don Young's Midnight Sun PAC are also included.

These donors contributed to Young only while while he was Chair of the House Transportation Committee, except that: a) Greyhound donated to Don Young in 2000, and b) Affiliates of the American Maritime Officers are consistent contributors to Don Young – however the Florida-based affiliates listed at donyoungshistory donated only during Young's tenure as Chairman of the House Transportation Committee.
