3rd Annual Li-Berry Music Festival & Berry Pie Throwdown a Good Time

In my very unofficial capacity as a pleased attendee, I can report that the 3rd Annual Li-Berry Music Festival & Berry Pie Throwdown for the John Trigg Ester Library was a success. The fundraiser was held on Sunday, September 21st, at the Blue Loon, where local bands The Acousta-Moose, ArlyJylz, Steve Brown & the Bailers, and Fiddlehead Red, played to an enthusiastic audience of library supporters. Cool library t-shirts were available for purchase (Fairbanks collector's items with a Jamie Smith line drawing logo--a bespectacled husky engrossed in a copy of "Howl"), and entrants of the Pie Throwdown, which was a lot less messy than it sounds, won prizes based on crucial pie attributes like tastiness and flakiness of crust. Library volunteer Margaret Rogers says that funds being raised are going toward heating fuel for the existing facility, and toward beginning construction on the library's permanent site located across the street from the post office in Ester.

Another benefit for the library, "Readers on the Run," a 5K run in Ester, is being planned for October 4th. More information about the John Trigg Ester Library is available at www.esterlibrary.org.
